CurbDC

Privacy Policy

Last updated · September 3, 2026

CurbDC helps you find the parking rules for the block where you parked in Washington, DC. This policy explains what data the app uses and how. We designed CurbDC to collect as little as possible.

The short version

Information we use

Location (precise), only when you request it. When you tap “I parked here,” the app reads your device’s current location and sends those coordinates to our curb-lookup service to return the parking rules for the nearest DC block face. Location is used to answer that single request. We do not run location in the background, and we do not build a history of where you have been.

Reminder time (on your device). If you set a “move your car” reminder, it is scheduled as a local notification on your device. That schedule stays on your device; we do not store it on a server.

Permit zone (on your device). If you save your Residential Permit Parking (RPP) zone, it is stored locally on your device so the app can tailor its warnings. It is not sent to us as personal information.

What we do not collect

How location data is handled

Coordinates you submit are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our backend solely to look up curb rules for that spot. They are used to compute and return the result. We do not use them to identify you and do not sell or share them with third parties for marketing.

Data retention

Because there are no accounts, we do not maintain a user profile. Server logs, if any, are kept only as needed to operate and secure the service and are not used to identify individual users.

Children’s privacy

CurbDC is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Third-party data sources

Parking rules come from the District of Columbia’s official DDOT open datasets. Your use of those results is subject to the accuracy of that public data. Posted signs are always authoritative; CurbDC is a guide, not a guarantee.

Changes to this policy

If we change what data the app uses, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
